This year, Georgia’s Pre-Kindergarten is celebrating its 25th Birthday!

In honor of this milestone and the visionary leadership that led to it, GEEARS and the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL) have come together to plan a monumental birthday party which will take place on March 6, 2018, from 5:00-7:00pm at the Georgia Freight Depot. We will be joined by Governor Nathan Deal and First Lady Sandra Deal, along with Pre-K staff, teachers, sponsors, legislators, Pre-K supporters and other officials from across the state.

Long recognized as a pioneer in early education investment, Georgia was one of the first states to make Pre-K available to all four-year olds regardless of family income. Georgia’s Pre-K Program began as a pilot program in 1992 serving 750 at-risk four-year-old children and in the past 25 years has served over 1.6 million children statewide. Approximately 80,000 Georgia children are served each year. The Georgia Pre-K program ensures children in Georgia have a solid foundation that contributes to later school success and college and career readiness.

Research clearly supports that Georgia Pre-K helps lay a solid foundation on which children’s academic and workforce careers can be built.

We look forward to blowing out the candles on Georgia Pre-K’s birthday cake with you on March 6, 2018.
