Join GEEARS: Georgia Early Education Alliance for Ready Students for our annual luncheon!

Headlined by former Atlanta Falcon and passionate child advocate Matt Ryan, this year’s fundraiser will take place at Zoo Atlanta in an airy room with a close view of the elephant habitat during feeding time. As a beloved spot for early childhood discovery, the zoo is the perfect place for the GEEARS community to reaffirm our commitment to young children and families.

If you’re as excited about this event as we are. . .

  • Commit to purchasing a seat, a table, or a sponsorship for the luncheon.

About Matt Ryan

Matt Ryan is a former NFL quarterback best known for his 14 seasons with the Atlanta Falcons (2008–2021). Nicknamed “Matty Ice” for his calm under pressure, Ryan led the Falcons to an NFC Championship and a Super Bowl appearance in 2017. A four-time Pro Bowl selection and the 2016 NFL MVP, Ryan is regarded as one of the franchise’s greatest players. In 2020, Matt and his wife Sarah launched ATL: Advance The Lives, which supports youth development organizations that address educational advancement, social-emotional development, and economic mobility in Black youth.

We’re excited to honor three tireless and passionate members of the early childhood community…

Dr. Jay Berkelhamer, a pediatrician and one of GEEARS’ founding board members, will receive our inaugural Legacy for Children Award. This is a new award that recognizes an individual’s cumulative efforts over a period of at least 15 years. Through Jay’s advocacy and community engagement, he demonstrates successful dedication to speaking for the needs of young children and their families. In addition, his efforts inspire others to become early childhood advocates.

Randall Kirsch and Shan Cooper have been chosen to receive our Champions for Children Award. This award, established in 2019, recognizes individuals who represent the interests of young children by fomenting systematic changes in policy and in practice at the local, state, or national level. Randall and Shan have made an incredible impact through the Rotary Club of Atlanta’s efforts to offer early educators training to improve retention in the field.
