The Mayor’s Summer Reading Club (MSRC) is a community-driven program, and we are looking for civic organizations and institutions to partner with us to help the MSRC continue to grow.

During the summer, MSRC Partners host activities related to the books selected. These events are intended to be low-cost and easy for the sponsoring organizations. GEEARS supplies the books based on your organization’s partnership application and programming details.

How to Become a Partner

MSRC Partners agree to do at least one “read” during the summer and host at least one activity related to the books selected. Partner organizations must serve children ages birth to 5. Our book selections are geared to this age group. Each year, two books are offered to partners: a board book for the birth to 2-year-olds and an original story for the 3 to 5-year-olds.

Organizations who wish to become partners must fill out a partnership application, attend our Summer Preview meeting in early January, the Storyteller & Partner Training in May, and be willing to share event information with GEEARS.

How Partners Participate

The Mayor’s Summer Reading Club is not simply a book giveaway. Ideally, parents and children are present for the MSRC activity, to forge a deeper understanding of the language in the book and deeper interaction with the book.

Partners agree to do at least one “read” during the summer and host at least one activity related to the books selected. These events are intended to be low-cost and easy for the sponsoring organizations. Partners agree to send us information about their event to include on our summer reading calendar, ensure that the event is open to the public, and assist us in publicizing the book club. Partners who wish to receive books will also participate in a storytelling training session for those in their organizations who will be executing the programming and readings.

In addition, partners agree to complete a short survey after their event(s) so that we can keep track of attendance and other information for funding partners.
