Georgia is often touted as the best state to do business. How would you ensure that it is also the best place to raise young children?
“Georgia cannot truly be the best state for business unless it is also a state where families can afford to live, work, and raise their children. As a legislator, I would continue advocating for affordable, high-quality childcare and expanded access to Georgia Pre-K. We must also strengthen the childcare workforce because parents cannot work when they cannot find safe, dependable care for their children. Children also need healthy beginnings. That means access to prenatal and postpartum care, pediatric and mental-health services, nutritious food, and early screening for developmental delays. It also means ensuring that families have safe and affordable housing. My work on the Safe and Healthy Housing Act reflects my belief that no child should be forced to live in a home with mold, unsafe conditions, or serious code violations. We must also address the financial pressures facing parents. Georgia should support paid family leave, workforce development, reliable transportation, and policies that allow working families to keep more of what they earn. These investments are not separate from economic development. They help businesses recruit and retain employees, reduce missed work, and build the educated and healthy workforce Georgia will need in the future. Our success should not be measured only by the companies we attract, but also by whether Georgia’s children and families have a genuine opportunity to thrive.”
