Georgia is often touted as the best state to do business. How would you ensure that it is also the best place to raise young children?
“As a mom of three who first ran for office when my children were two, five, and eight, making Georgia the best place to raise a family is personal to me. A strong business climate means little if working families cannot afford to live and thrive here. To ensure Georgia supports its youngest residents, I focus on four key priorities: • Expanding Childcare Access and Affordability: Leverage state investments and public-private partnerships to eliminate childcare deserts, while raising compensation and benefits to stabilize and strengthen the early educator workforce. • Modernizing Universal Pre-K: Update the state funding formula to provide reimbursements that match real operating costs, expand classroom slots, and bring Pre-K teacher pay into parity with K–12 educators. • Strengthening Maternal and Child Health: Expand postpartum healthcare access and pass full Medicaid expansion to connect thousands of young children and parents to preventive care, screenings, and mental health services. • Supporting Family-Friendly Communities: Advance policies that lower housing costs, protect children with common-sense gun safety measures like secure storage, and ensure state policies—from paid family leave to accessible voting lines—accommodate the everyday realities of parenting.”
