“Being the best place to raise a child means both the child and the child’s parents or parent figures are also taken care of. This starts from before birth. Our state has one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the country. We must expand medicaid and provide longer term care for moms to ensure that mothers survive childbirth and can raise their babies. After a child is born, we need to make sure that child is taken care of by ensuring adequate childcare. That can be in the form of universal childcare and also making sure jobs pay a living wage so parents can spend more time with their kids instead of working multiple jobs. We also need to get the cost of housing under control. When a child is made to move often, it creates instability and leads to worsening outcomes. Education is also an integral part of raising a child which is why we must update our QBE formula so that our schools are properly funded based on the changing needs of students. Additionally, we must provide free breakfast and lunch. A hungry child cannot learn and will fall behind. These are just a few of the ways we can ensure that Georgia is the best place to raise a child.”
