Georgia Congressional District #5

Georgia is often touted as the best state to do business. How would you ensure that it is also the best place to raise young children?
“Georgia cannot truly be the number one place to do business unless we are also the number one place to raise a family.
That starts by recognizing that children and families are part of our economic infrastructure. I’ve worked to make child care an intentional part of economic development planning through my CEDS legislation, because parents cannot go to work, businesses cannot recruit and retain workers, and communities cannot thrive without affordable, accessible child care.
But becoming the number one place for children requires us to go further. Every child should have the opportunity to thrive, no matter their ZIP Code or their parents’ bank account. That means strong public schools, access to health care and nutritious food, safe and affordable housing, and good-paying jobs that give families real economic security.
As co-chair of the Congressional Mamas Caucus, I’m also fighting to ensure families have support from the very beginning—including improving maternal health outcomes, particularly for Black mothers, and giving babies a healthy start.
We measure Georgia’s success by the businesses we attract and the jobs we create. We should be just as ambitious about our children. I want Georgia to be a place where families can afford to build a life and every child has a safe community, a strong education, a healthy start, and the freedom to dream as big as they choose.”
