Georgia is often touted as the best state to do business. How would you ensure that it is also the best place to raise young children?
"To ensure Georgia is the best place to raise young children, I would focus on three main categories: education, healthcare, and support services.
First, we need to improve the quality and equity of education across the country. All states must prioritize increasing funding for their education systems. One crucial step is to reduce teacher-to-student ratios. Smaller classes allow teachers to provide more personalized attention to each student, which can significantly improve student outcomes. We also need to incorporate culturally competent teaching methods throughout the curriculum. Our classrooms are becoming more diverse, and students must see their cultures and histories reflected in their learning. It will improve engagement and foster a sense of belonging and respect among students from various backgrounds.
We need to expand healthcare for families to ensure every child has access to quality treatment. Expanding state-funded insurance programs could help cover more families, making healthcare less of a financial burden. In addition, expanding Telehealth for remote consultations can be beneficial because it is less time-consuming and more accessible for residents outside of the metro area.
Expanding support services by increasing the number of free or low-cost family-oriented activities and services is necessary for young families. For example, establishing family centers in communities that offer parenting classes, early childhood education programs, and support groups can be incredibly beneficial. In addition, increasing the number of public spaces, such as libraries and parks, particularly in underserved areas, would greatly benefit young children."
