Georgia is often touted as the best state to do business. How would you ensure that it is also the best place to raise young children?

“I believe that our intense focus on being good for business has repeatedly hurt us as it comes to raising our children. Georgians are incredibly hardworking but most of that work serves to pay shareholders, executives, and line the pockets of the ultra rich. I’d like to pull some of that money back to where it belongs, in the hands of the people. Bringing this money back means that we could allow people to spend less time working a second or third job and more time focused on raising our young children. The best way to improve this is to give our parents more room to breath and be present in the lives of their children. Additionally I would like to extend maternity and paternity leave. Making mandatory leaves codified in law would allow parents more time to spend with the children they have worked so hard to have. I also wish to focus on education. Too many of our young children have been robbed the opportunity for a quality education through the unnecessary cutbacks made to school funding here in Georgia. I believe we need to begin looking at the revenue from our lottery system as a supplement rather than being the whole way we fund certain educational programs. Our children deserve more time and capital in order to ensure they succeed. Implementing more policy that allows parents to spend time with their children will make us the best place to raise young children.”
