Georgia is often touted as the best state to do business. How would you ensure that it is also the best place to raise young children?

“We must make Georgia a more affordable and safe place to live for young families. That starts with a stable home. We must encourage homeownership by driving down the cost with a federal, state, local, and private sector commitment to build more affordable housing stock; limiting private equity’s ability to gobble up existing single family homes; and providing tax incentives for first time homeowners. We must make raising a family more affordable by reinstating and making permanent and refundable the Expanded Child Tax Credit to lift millions of families and children out of poverty, similar to the efforts under President Biden’s American Rescue Plan. We must make healthcare more affordable by expanding Medicaid under the ACA and reinstating the expanded premium tax credits that were law under the Biden administration. We must also work to drive down the exploding cost of childcare by capping costs families pay along with providing federal subsidies to ensure access, as well as raise standards so facilities are safe and staffed by trusted professionals. We must also expand access to pre-k, 3-k, and other early childhood education programs so more children, especially those from historically underserved or marginalized communities, are placed on a solid pathway to success before they begin school. I also believe we must stop the Trump administration’s dangerous plan to eliminate the US Department of Education and protect the federal government’s commitment to guaranteeing our students’ educational outcomes and civil rights, especially students with disabilities. These must be our highest priorities.”
