Stand-Up for Georgia’s Kids: A GEEARS Fundraiser featuring Comedian DJ Pryor
GEEARS: Georgia Early Education Alliance for Ready Students hosted its annual fundraising luncheon on Thursday, February 16th, at the Buckhead Club.
This year’s headliner was motivational speaker, stand-up comedian, and Dad, DJ Pryor. He was smart, poignant, and funny enough to make you ugly cry. For proof, check out this sweetly hilarious video of Pryor “talking” with his toddler, which went justifiably viral.
The luncheon featured a panel discussion on family engagement with Pryor, Fathers Incorporated CEO Kenneth Braswell, the first African American Male Pre-K Teacher of the Year for the State of Georgia, Johnathon Hines, GEEARS’ Pre-K Recruitment Specialist, Dawan Barfield, and others. They explored the importance of connecting with young children and families in different ways.
We were also thrilled to honor Atlanta’s Mayor Andre Dickens with the Early Childhood Champion award for being a shining advocate for Atlanta’s youngest children and those who care for them.
