Georgia is often touted as the best state to do business. How would you ensure that it is also the best place to raise young children?

“If we want Georgia to be the best place to raise young children, we have to invest in the things that matter most to families.

First, I would expand Medicaid. Access to quality healthcare shouldn’t depend on a family’s income or where they live. Healthy children are more successful in school, and healthy parents are better able to provide for their families.

Second, I would modernize Georgia’s Quality Basic Education (QBE) funding formula. It was created in the 1980s, and while our classrooms and the needs of our students have changed dramatically, the funding formula has not kept pace. Our schools deserve a funding system that reflects today’s realities, not yesterday’s.

Finally, I would take a more balanced approach to economic development. Georgia has become one of the best states to do business, but we should also strive to be the best state to raise a family. That means making sure growth benefits the people who already live here by planning infrastructure, supporting affordable housing, investing in schools, and ensuring our communities keep pace with development. Economic growth should improve the quality of life for Georgia families, not just our business rankings.

A strong economy and strong families go hand in hand. If we invest in our children today, we’re investing in Georgia’s future tomorrow.”
